Occupational Therapy is the unique health care specialty that works on improving function abilities and integrating adaptive equipment when necessary. Occupational therapy focuses on a return to ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living) that might be hindered or limited due to injury. Occupational Therapists at Back in Action have a specialized hand certification recognized by the HTCC (Hand Therapy Certification Commission) and demonstrate a passion for work with the upper extremities and hands. Hand therapy is defined as the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper limb, which includes the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder girdle. Using specialized skills, hand therapists provide interventions to prevent dysfunction, restore function, and reverse the progression of pathology of the upper limb in order to enhance an individual’s ability to execute tasks and participate fully in life situations. Complicated hand injuries include: post-surgical, trauma, and repetitive strain injuries that are treated with experienced and advanced training in hand rehabilitation.
