I was born in Park Falls, a small town in Northcentral Wisconsin. Growing up in a small community allowed me the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports throughout my childhood and into high school. Through this period, I experienced many bumps and bruises and had the chance to work with an assortment of rehabilitation professionals. Each one of them helped me to help myself, by including me in the plan for rehab and giving me the tools to succeed.
After high school, I began my studies at UW-Madison, and received my Bachelor degree in Kinesiology-Movement Science. As part of my practicum, I had the opportunity to work in an adaptive fitness program, designing and adapting exercise equipment and individualized programs to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. This very rewarding experience allowed me to get my creative juices flowing, which has helped me in my career as a therapist.
As I started grad school, again at UW-Madison, I found that creativity is a key in helping patients of all ability levels. During my clinical rotations, I had the chance to work with many different patient populations, including: pediatrics, geriatrics, persons with developmental disabilities, orthopedic rehab patients. What works for one person, does not always work for another. With the help of my talented instructors, I was able to further develop my capacity to be imaginative when it comes to rehabbing patients of differing ages, diagnoses, and abilities.
For me, the most exciting part of therapy is listening to the patient's input and designing an individualized rehabilitation program together. By allowing the patient to be an active member of the rehab team, we are better able to create a functional program that will facilitate the achievement of personal goals.

| I am excited to continue to absorb information and ideas from my talented, experienced colleagues here at Back-in-Action. In addition, I am eager to continue to expand my knowledge through continuing education courses. As research continues to challenge old ideas and bring about new concepts, our practice as physical therapists must advance. Along with continuing to progress in orthopedics, I plan enhance my knowledge in treating patients with balance dysfunction, vestibular disorders, and neuromuscular disorders. |
